I'll disagree with pinstripes though about Colonial garrison divisions more generally. Ethiopia required more, but were mostly colonial divisions, some expeditionary forces, and the odd decent infantry division. I managed to take most of North Africa with ~5 divisions. War in Africa can be very tedious if contested.
Make sure that your troops in Africa are set up. You can guard against manpower loss in a few different ways: add some armour (heavy tanks ideally) to your infantry divisions. Depending on how things develop you may only have a brief window in which you can select it. It's already been suggested but Shadow Scheme National focus is an important one not to miss. I wouldn't worry about the navy, but make sure you are building extra convoys, I have yet to encounter a competent enough AI to challenge the UK's starting fleet. I'd change the colonial garrison divisions to your normal infantry divisions except stick a logistics on them instead of at or aa and use them in Africa. I'm not a fan of grand battleplan, so I switched to superior firepower. UK is manpower blocked more than anything so I recommend focusing on air force and armor, the 50% research you get from royal tank company should be grabbed to get the 38/39 tank earlier. I haven't found out a good way to time it so you can get unlucky and not be above 5% world tension while being able to choose your national focus till much later in the game, but as soon as world tension goes above 5% try to choose it if you can.
Try to get the shadow scheme national focus as soon as you can. The way I did mine was Belgium->France->Netherlands/Luxembourg->Spain/Portugal->Italy->Germany/rest of Europe and Asia -> Americas It's more or less impossible with a democracy, due to their not being able to justify on countries that haven't raised world tension. If you want to do a world conquest I'd suggest Fascist.
