Most of the radio stations from The Third return with a new rotation of music, with some new stations added into the mix. Best of all, each type of weapon has a customizable style so whether you’re more into conventional tommy-guns or unconventional weapons that shoot dubstep beats, IV has you covered.
This lets the player run around at high speeds, leap buildings in a single bound, collect things that are otherwise locked off in the overworld, and engage in activities which open up a plethora of new powers and weapons over time. Gameplay wise, IV takes many cues from The Third, but branches off into its own thing when the super powers come into play. The intro alone slingshots from a movie parody, to a musical segment, to a visual gag, and then you get to punch out a member of Congress, which is obviously great fun. What made the previous Saints games good were the gameplay, the music, and the over the top humor and thankfully IV has all three.
In the previous game, The Saints ultimately managed to take over the entire city of Steelport and IV soon ramps up the same level of nonsensical supremacy by opening the game with The Saints having expanded their territory to the entirety of the United States! But with the added weight of political responsibility comes the added pressure of the job and as extraterrestrials (or Xenos) invade and kidnap their beloved Boss, The Saints become trapped by them in a virtual reality version of Steel Port! So can you defeat the invading aliens and save America? (and the rest of the world too, I guess…) Of course you can but to answer the real question: “should you play it?” lets dive into the good, the bad, and the ugly of Saints Row IV.
